Viewpoint: Why Maryland’s minimum wage hike makes automation more important than ever
Maryland’s march toward a $15-an-hour minimum wage will benefit many residents, but has the potential to hurt others- especially those in the manufacturing industry. But there is a solution. Arnold Packaging president Mick Arnold shared his thoughts with the Baltimore Business Journal on how Maryland’s growing support of automation and Industry 4.0 technology could be the answer to the challenges that an increased minimum wage may bring. And despite myths to the contrary, automation will help existing employees and could even open the door for roles that potentially boost pay and drive career advancement!
But as Mick points out, the real challenge is not whether or not manufactures adopt robotics in the workplace, but if legislators take the necessary steps to make securing new equipment a possibility.
