Automation Spotlight: Case Erectors
Part 2 of our 10-part series featuring useful automation for your industry is here!
If you missed Part 1, you can view it here: Automation Spotlight 1: Case Packing Machines.
This week, our spotlight turns to…
Case Erectors
Function:
Case erectors are automated machines used in packaging processes to form flat cardboard blanks into erected cases or boxes. The machine typically folds and seals the bottom of the case, making it ready for filling with products.
Applications:
- Consumer Goods: Packing a wide range of products such as electronics, toys, and household items.
- E-commerce and Retail: Preparing shipping boxes for various consumer goods to streamline the order fulfillment process.
- Food and Beverage Industry: Automating the packing of products like canned goods, bottled beverages, and packaged snacks.
- Pharmaceutical Industry: Efficient packaging of medicines, supplements, and other health products.
- Industrial Products: Packaging heavy-duty items, automotive parts, and machinery components.
Types:
-
-
- Automatic Case Erectors: Fully automated machines that require minimal human intervention. Ideal for high-speed and high-volume operations.
- Semi-Automatic Case Erectors: Require some level of manual assistance. Suitable for medium-volume operations.
- Side-Belt Drive Case Erectors: Use belts on the sides to transport and erect the case (see the gif above). Commonly used for stable, uniformly shaped cases.
- Bottom-Belt Drive Case Erectors: Utilize belts on the bottom to handle cases, often used for heavier or more robust case materials.
-
Advantages:
-
-
- Increased Efficiency: Significantly speeds up packaging when compared to a manual process, allowing for higher production rates.
- Consistency and Reliability: Ensures uniformity, lessening errors and ensuring that all cases are correctly formed.
- Labor Savings: Reduces the need for manual labor, allowing employees to focus on other tasks and reducing labor costs.
- Flexibility: Can handle a wide variety of case sizes and styles with quick changeovers.
- Improved Safety: Minimizes the risk of repetitive strain injuries associated with manual processes.
-
Adaptability:
-
-
- Customization: Can be customized to handle unique case sizes, shapes, and materials.
- Integration: Easily integrates with other packaging line equipment such as conveyors, case packers, and palletizers.
- Scalability: Suitable for small businesses to large manufacturing plants.
- Advanced Features: Many modern case erectors come with touch screen controls, remote diagnostics, and modular designs for easy upgrades.
- Versatility: Capable of handling various types of cardboard and corrugated materials, including recycled materials, to support sustainable packaging initiatives.
