On Hiring Top Talent | “Love ‘n Business” Podcast
Mick Arnold and Britt Arnold explore the ins and outs of their hiring processes in this insightful episode of “Love ‘n Business”.
Inspired by recent departures in their own companies, the Arnold’s reflect on the strategies they’ve developed to help them bypass the emotional aspect and move forward effectively.
If you’re looking to enhance your hiring approach or simply curious about the recruitment process, this episode is packed with practical insights you can use right away.
Tips include:
- Don’t make it personal – it’s not.
- When a valued employee leaves, use that opportunity to have an exit interview and learn where you could improve employee satisfaction in your organization.
- When you get a resignation, take immediate stock of the market to fill that role. For example, Mick has found that controls engineering is a competitive expertise right now.
- Both Mick and Brit begin their processes by using AI to help craft a strong job description.
- Seek referrals from partners, industry colleagues from associations, etc. Get your message out there – add “we’re hiring” just below your signature block in emails.
- Post on platforms (LinkedIn, LinkedIn Recruiter (paid), Indeed, Zip Recruiter) and/or use recruiters.
- Add a salary range to your posting.
- As you cover that role prior to the new hire, take the time to learn about it and what may have been missed that can be addressed with your new hire.
- Mick gives feedback from panel interviews to the candidate to see how they react to a coaching opportunity prior to hiring.
- Shorter job durations on resumes are more common these days and not necessarily a red flag, in Mick’s opinion.
In the next episode, they’ll explore the art of interviewing and finding the ideal candidate.
