We are seeking a talented and experienced Controller to join our team and help drive our financial strategy. This person will report directly to – and work closely with – the President on financial initiatives. 

Position Overview:

The Controller will play a crucial role on the Arnold Packaging Executive team, managing the company’s financial health and ensuring its long-term financial stability. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in finance and accounting, along with the ability to lead and inspire a team. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and manage the monthly closing process to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting.
  • Oversee accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems ensuring compliance with appropriate GAAP standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct comprehensive financial planning and analysis to support strategic decision-making.
  • Manage department level transactions, recording and reporting.
  • Ensure compliance with accounting standards and regulations, including ASC 606 (Revenue Recognition), ASC 805 (Business Combinations), and ASC 842 (Leases).
  • Lead ERP integration projects to streamline financial processes and improve system efficiency.
  • Manage treasury functions, including cash flow management, banking relationships, and investment strategies.
  • Develop and maintain internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure the integrity of financial information.
  • Coordinate the provision of information to external accountants for the annual reviewed financial statements and tax returns. 
  • Comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings in Maryland and surrounding states.
  • Oversee the administration of the company’s 401k plan.
  • Provide leadership and mentorship to the accounting, purchasing, HR and IT teams (five direct reports), fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional development.
  • Support the President in various financial and operational initiatives, including budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
  • Prepare and present financial reports to senior management.
  • Assist in the evaluation and execution of asset-based lending transactions and other financing activities.
  • Oversee costing activities, ensuring accurate allocation of costs to products and services.
  • Manage and develop the accounting, purchasing, HR and IT team members (5 direct reports).
  • Complete other tasks as assigned by ownership, offering assistance when needed.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Proven experience as a Controller or Accounting Manager within the distribution or manufacturing industry.
  • Strong proficiency in ERP systems and experience with ERP integration projects.
  • Excellent treasury management skills, including cash flow forecasting and investment strategies.
  • Experience with costing and cost allocation processes.
  • Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
